Search for the Five Outstanding Fire Fighters of Parañaque

This special project was initiated by Supt. Leonides Perez, City Fire Marshall of Parañaque and RCPSE Director for Community Service B during the the first club Planning Workshop in May, 2006.

Berong BomberoThe project was designed to boost the firemen/firefighters’ morale so that they will continue to deliver the highest standard of public service and recognize their daring outlook to a formidable task of fire fighting and prevention and their unwavering commitment to keep our community safe with equity and promptness at all times.

The acronym BASA means Bumbero Ayaw sa Apoy. Basa is a Pilipino word for “wet”, while the slogan literally means “Firemen/Fire Fighters Don’t Like Fire”. It was short and catchy; the club has used it repeatedly with reference to this annual project.

BASA was formally launched in August 9, 2006 with a motorcade of ten fire trucks that went around the busy streets of Parañaque. The City’s volunteer fire brigade also joined the motorcade because the succeeding annual search will include the Volunteer Fire Fighters and the Junior Fire Marshalls.

BASAThe launch of BASA had full media exposure, while key District officials, distinguished Rotarian friends and families, VIPs from the national and local government and fire fighters from the five Fire-substations in Parañaque were in attendance to witness the formal rites that launched the Search for the Five Outstanding Fire Fighters of Parañaque City.

By September, 2006, a memorandum was sent to all firemen or firefighters of Parañaque City Fire sub-stations to informed them that they were all qualified for nomination. The nominees’ endorsement, and years of training, work expenrience and commendations underwent stringent evaluation headed by the RCPSE as lead organization and supported by the Local Government Unit (LGU), the Department of Interior and Local Government, the Bureau of Fire Prevention and esteem leaders in our community.

The first five recipients of the prestigious award were presented to the public during a formal affair in March 1, 2007, the Fire Prevention Month. (Click here to view the AVP of the first and second batched of awardees .
